Biography
Dr. Mayssan Muftah, MD, MPH, is a gastroenterologist and academic instructor affiliated with the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She has established extensive clinical and research expertise in oesophageal disorders, with a specialized focus on eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE).
Dr Mayssan Mufath, MD, MPH (USA)
Dr. Muftah’s research concentrates on identifying distinct clinical phenotypes of EoE and discovering predictors for patient treatment response. Her prominent work includes analysing how baseline peripheral absolute eosinophil counts and specific allergic phenotypes influence a patient’s responsiveness to proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy. Notably, she co-led a significant study published in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology which demonstrated that the specific anatomical distribution of oesophageal eosinophilia at initial diagnosis can effectively predict PPI treatment outcomes (Hartnett et al., 2025). Through her contributions to managing one of the largest dedicated EoE patient databases, her work aims to minimize trial-and-error treatment approaches, lessen the need for repetitive endoscopic testing, and accelerate targeted clinical remission for patients.
